This unit gives students exposure to project management principles and covers nine key areas of project management body of knowledge from a managerial, non-technical, perspective. Teaching and learning is achieved in an operational context via formal seminars and the undertaking a semester-long project planning assignment. Thus, this course takes a “hands on” approach in which students are required to attend meetings and seminars and to work during the whole semester in a full and realistic project plan for the implementation of innovative solutions supporting business activities for a major and innovative program.  

課程目標
This unit gives students exposure to project management principles and covers nine key areas of project management body of knowledge from a managerial, non-technical, perspective. A systematic approach to planning, scheduling and controlling organizational activities; time lines, budgets and quality criteria. To develop an understanding of the concepts and techniques of managing projects. Topics will include, project selection, role of the project manager, budgeting, scheduling and control, negotiation and conflict resolution, and project management software tools. Course also covers advanced project management topics necessary for implementation of and excellence in project management. Topics include human resource management, procurement management, contract administration, risk management, project leadership, communications management and an introduction to program management.
Upon successful completion of the requirements for this course, students will be able to:
1. To develop an understanding of the concepts of Project Management
2. Concepts discussed include: Economic Analysis of Projects; Multiple-criteria Evaluation Methods; Organizational Structures and Work Structures; Project Scheduling; Budget Management; Resource Management and Control.
3. To develop an understanding of the concepts of project management including project time management, change control, and communications planning.
4. To acquire the necessary skills to develop and execute a project plan.
5. To utilize accepted practices for procurement planning, contract administration, and team development.
6. To enhance competence in using project management software to organize and monitor projects

There are no formal prerequisites for this course but a good level of self-initiative, commitment to your development and willingness to work and have fun while learning are distinctive advantages..
